Fast and easy to do and on the cheap too! You can do this in an hour or less.
I haven't seen this posted anywhere but remember doing it as a child and decided to give it a try again.
Here's all you need. An empty, clean wide mouthed jar. I used a pickle jar. Cheap brown masking tape and some paint. I used a fifty cent tester jar of mis-tinted paint from Home Depot in a dark brown color.
Start at the bottom of the jar with short pieces of tape. Mix up the sizes and placement and cover the jar completely.
I started with longer pieces for coverage then went back over my jar with shorter pieces.
Grab a cheap chip brush, sponge or even an old rag and start painting. No special strokes. Just smear it on sort of dry so the tape don't curl up. Get good coverage with your paint. Once it's dry, feel it. Does it feel like leather to you? Here's my finished jar. The paint dried a little bit lighter than it started out. It's showing even lighter in the pic. Mine looks almost terra cotta colored. I love it!
Might be a good idea to spray it with a light coat of Clear Acrylic.
Try this on a picture frame and maybe even a flea market tray for a nice set for your bedside table.
Oh.. how about doing a bunch of baby food jars. Add some fresh cut flowers and line them down the center of your table for a beautiful center piece! Show me more!
Post a link to your Blog or Online Album and show me what you've come up with using this technique. I'd love to see your ideas!
